Even Rudy Guiliani is totally against this idea. I would think the former mayor of NYC (during 9/11!!) would know what is best in this situation. The last thing NYC needs is five terrorists being paraded around for a trial when they can just as easily be found GUILTY in a military tribunal!
New York is always a terror target but a trial in the City will give fanatics across the world a cause to regroup and plot. The mental fear this trial will put on the citizens (and especially cummuters) of NYC will be great to say the least.
Sounds like Anonymous has forgotten one of the prime tenets of the American system of justice: the accused is always to be regarded as innocent until proven guilty. And that was part of my point: if we really ARE better than our enemies, then we have to prove it, with every move. As for increased danger to NYC, either the Department of Homeland Security is doing its job -- as Bush repeatedly assured us it does -- or it's not. You can't have it both ways.
David Loftus, a free-lance writer and actor, is the author of AMERICAN CURRENTS. A native Oregonian who has lived on the East Coast and traveled much of Europe and parts of Asia and Africa, he makes his home in Portland with his wife Carole and toy fox terrier Pixie. David reads more than a hundred books a year and watches an average of less than two hours of television a week. He does not own a car, has no children, and pretty much avoids meat.
