I am not quite sure how Patrick can say that President Obama, "inherited a deteriorating economy which has not dramatically improved as fast as so many wide-eyed and green voters unfairly expected."
The Obama administration promised us that their stimulus package would keep unemployment from exceeding 10% and it did not, they promised that their stimulus package would turn our economy around quickly and it did not.
So, for Patrick to claim that somehow this was "unfairly" placed upon the Obama administration is simply ignoring the facts.
Obama went into office dealing with the worst crisies of any president: Afghanistan, Iraq, a worldwide recession, and the previously ignored Global Warming emergency, etc. There is no magic wand to fix everything. We can only be patient and be thankful we now have a President who can pronounce the issues he must deal with.
I agree with Patrick. Obama has set forth a policy that is opposite of the previous administration and the public (and Republicans) are hesitant to support him because there hasn't been an overnight change for the better. I believe the worst is over and things are heading in a better direction, but I also agree that getting health care fixed will do wonders for Obama's popularity.
I voted for Obama, joyfully. It may have been the first time in seven national elections I actually was voting FOR somebody more than voting AGAINST somebody else. I'm not going to rush to judgment about his performance while he's in office. Change takes a long time; effects of legislative activity take a while to show. But it's easy to make promises, and every candidate does it, not really knowing what he'll face in office. Item: "I will promise you this, that if we have not gotten our troops out by the time I am president, it is the first thing I will do. I will get our troops home. We will bring an end to this war. You can take that to the bank. "- Barack Obama, October 27, 2007
