Changing the Date of Halloween: Sasha Smith

Halloween has always been exciting for me every since I was a little girl. One of my earliest Halloween memories was dressing as a gypsy. I've always enjoyed getting dressed up and then eating sweets for a month. It honestly didn't mean anything more to me than that. I must say that I have not heard anything about folks protesting to change the date that Halloween is celebrated.

Does it really matter?

I hate to take a neutral stance on the topic but I must say that the retailers and those who profit from the "holiday" in Atlanta would probably love it. Atlanta, for those who don't know, is notorious for it's traffic. Halloween night is always one of the most traffic congested evenings in this city. Getting on our main highway I-85 is literally a real Halloween nightmare. Having it on the last Saturday of the month would be better for parents and the young and and old adults who like to get dressed up and tramp the city. But in reality most towns and cities in the United States just celebrate on the last Saturday of the month anyhow. It probably wouldn't be a drastic change.

I must say there are way more important legislation that needs to be looked at and I hope that this is at the bottom of the pile for Congress. (I'm hoping healthcare for all is on top.)

So in the spirit of Halloween here is my costume. I truly enjoyed being Amy Winehouse for the weekend.
