Changing the Date of Halloween: Scott Hinkley

I think the idea of moving Halloween is an excellent one. I am not terribly concerned about the commercialization of a holiday that has shifted to become more like a nation-wide Mardi Gras than a youthful romp before All Saints Day.  If those opposing the move are preoccupied with corporate manipulation, I would think they would start with a grass-roots candy movement, or a costume recycling program.

In my mind it is a bold move mostly because it attempts to acknowledge the cultural shift towards encouraging a Neverland vision of adulthood. I think we should embrace our inner youth-fountains, polluted as they may be with liquor and beer, and admit that we look forward to spending our money on trivial items to wow our friends and our sweet-tooths.  And if Halloween isn't for you, then it shouldn't matter either way.
