Fear of Flying? Roseanne Frangione

Another year, another terror plot. And where were those who have pledged to protect us? Were they on Christmas holiday? There were no air marshals on Flight 253 as a militant madman with a bomb in his underpants planned to destroy a flight full of Americans over Detroit on Christmas Day. There were, however, plenty of warnings (one even from the bomber's own father), none of which amounted to anyone doing much of anything to stop the attempted attack.

Days after the incident, Homeland Security Director Janet Napolitano went on national television to brag that “the system worked.” Well, if passengers and crew of an airborne plane subduing a terrorist who managed to get on a plane with a bomb in his underpants is a symbol of the system working, I'd dread to think of what Ms. Napolitano would consider a failure. Even her boss Obama called it “systematic failure.”

After the 9/11 attacks I avoided flying whenever possible, and that was when we had an administration that was committed to keeping our land and skies safe. Now, with an administration that is more interested in raising the deficit with a “McHealthcare” system that no one wants, I will avoid flying once again.
