Looking Back at Election Day 2009: Gabriel Mata

I believe that the results of the 2009 elections are a direct repudiation of the Barack Obama presidency. Exit polls say differently but people are still allowed to say anything, that doesn’t mean it’s true. New Jersey and Virginia are not immune to the national political climate and it’s ridiculous to believe the national democratic party and their governing style was inconsequential to the results of elections. Last Tuesday Barack Obama put his political capital on the line and that’s a fact. In New Jersey he campaigned heavily for John Corzine, making at least 5 appearances. It was general knowledge that Corzine was his man and he made an effort to see him win. In Virginia the situation was similar with democratic nominee for governor Creigh Deeds. What happened in both those elections? Crushing defeats.

If the polls are correct and Barack Obama wasn’t a factor for voters, we still learn about Obama’s standing with the American People. If Obama truly wasn’t a factor last Tuesday despite the fact that he campaigned we must conclude that Obama is irrelevant. It means no one cares what he has to say on the matter. Why don’t they care? because they simply don’t trust him. Lets be serious, if the American people trusted Barack Obama and his policies they would vote for his guys and his policies. Instead we found that Barack Obama might not help a candidate’s campaign but hinder it. So Barack Obama went from being the new JFK to the new George W. in less than a year. There is no doubt in my mind that in 2010 the democrats will think twice before putting Obama out on the stump. The farce is over, the great uniter can’t unite anyone except for anti bush Europeans and this fact is crystallizing in Americas political conscious. He is more divisive than George Bush and that is totally contrary to what this man ran on. George Bush didn’t struggle to obtain one measly democratic vote on even his most controversial policies. Barack Obama on the other hand has given up on the republicans and is now struggling for democrats in his own party. How can you blame Barack Obama’s failures on stingy republicans when the truth is his own party is not even on board.

People are upset because this whole presidency thing is not turning out one bit like he said it would. I know the people didn’t elect Obama understanding that if they disagreed with him they would be labeled a racist. Imagine how the last presidential election would’ve turned out if we knew that under the Obama nation, opposing universal healthcare is racist. It probably would’ve turned out a lot like the 2009 elections in my opinion. Tell the elephants to calm down though because this is a victory for the GOP by default. Just like Bush handed 2008 over to the democrats Barack Obama will empower the republican party for 2010. Americans are tired of voting for the lesser of two evils and we are realizing fast that we are running out of options. Could this be the end of the two party system? Not as long as these guys are in office.
