The Placebo Effect

A new report by the Associated Press strongly suggests the success of alternative medicine is due mostly to the what is called the placebo effect, which is the power of the mind along with human expectations. The report says that often people feel better after receiving medication or treatment that they expect will help them - even when they have been given dummy pills (placebos) or faked treatment. Alternative medicine, including herbal medicine, homeopathy, and new age healing, has become mainstream in recent years in the United States with more than one in three Americans using these treatments.

We asked our contributors if they believe their minds can make them feel better. After reading what they think, have your say by leaving a comment.
