Pat Robertson's Devlish Comments on Haiti: Jeff Weiss

What more can be said about Pat Robertson's inane comments that haven't already been said? Check out what White House Press Secretary said about Robertson's comments:

White House adviser Valerie Jarrett said she was "speechless" after hearing Robertson's comments. "Our heart goes out to the people of Haiti," Jarrett told ABC News. "That's not the attitude that expresses the spirit of the president or the American people, so I thought it was a pretty stunning comment to make."

Now, back to Robertson. There was a time when Robertson was a relevant voice in the conservative Christian movement. As he approaches his 80th birthday, I think it would be in everyone's best interest if Robertson retired. For the last ten years, his only newsworthy comments were ridiculously embarrassing blunders along the lines of last week's "Devil's Earthquake" story. This is the same man who suggested Hurricane Katrina was God's revenge for abortions; that 9/11 was God's revenge on homosexuality, the ACLU, and feminists; that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's stroke was God's revenge for Sharon's peace plans with Palestine that included "dividing God's land"; and that feminism is "about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians."

At the end of the day, we have to keep in mind that we are blessed to live in a country that supports freedom of speech. Pat Robertson, whatever his intentions are, is allowed to speak his mind. It is up to us if we wish to listen to serious reporting or "utterly stupid" ramblings. I hope you make good choices.
