why do people think if a coworker or friend comes out it's fine but if a celebrity does it's a publicity stunt? If Meredith Baxter didn't go public a tabloid would have outed her eventually. I really do not agree with Mr. Allen's assessement that the viewing public would feel "betrayal" by the coming out of an actor who played a masculine motorcycle riding character. Has anyone ever heard the monumental rumors of James Dean's preference for men? Why should anyone feel betrayed by someone else's sexual preference?
Hey, Anonymous: do you know for a fact that Baxter is seeking to boost her career? Maybe she doesn't need the attention. Maybe she has no particular career plans. I have no idea, and I bet you don't either. Maybe she just wanted people to know and accept her for who she is, not for who they think she is. If you allow people to think what they are inclined to think of you, and it's not accurate, then sooner or later you're apt to feel you're living a lie.
