Toyota's Tarnished Image: Scott Hinkley

I think it is a disgrace that Toyota allowed so many mishaps and accidents to occur after they had become aware of the problem. I respect that since they are in the business of motor-vehicles, a mode of transportation but also a potential deadly-weapon, Toyota is constantly working to keep their customers safe, but this was a big mistake for them. Beyond their failure to provide a safe vehicle, Toyota is suffering double for their timing, when the American consumer is looking to corporations as well as governments to shield them from risk and liability those people are now finally recognizing around them.

I think the only solution Toyota can find now is one where they service millions of cars, at a huge cost to them, and even then, they can only hope that they don't inadvertently allow any other critical defects in their cars for at least the next 2-3 years. That is a difficult thing to ensure, but the stakes are higher for them as an auto maker than at any other time. Hopefully they can return to their roots and restore their image as a leading innovator of automobiles.
