Terror Trial May Move from NYC: Ryan John

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed should be tried by a military tribunal in Guantanamo Bayu, Cuba or a military base elsewhere.  White House spokesman, Robert Gibbs already publicly said that after KSM is convicted, he'll "meet his maker."  Exactly what Mohommed and the other terrorist masterminds are hoping.  He wants to die alongside the four other 9/11 plotters and fulfill his mission to martyrdom. So why are we bothering at all with a drawn out, expensive, overly publicized civilian trial ultimately funded by tax payer dollars?  Is it to prove that America's justice system is superior? Is it to prove how diplomatic we are in international relations even if it's with people who killed three thousand Americans?  I think President Obama did enough to repair our image with the world in his first year in office.  That I would say was his greatest accomplishment.

I don't think its fair to the memory of the victims, their families or the nature of the event to try these men in the same city the attacks they planned were executed.  I think they'd probably want that for the sake of spreading their fundamental Islamic extremism. Plus, a fair United States civilian trial will raise anti-American rhetoric in support of reasons why an attack on our soil was justified.  In their defense, protesters will say drum up support for these men who are going to be seen all over the media circuit on every outlet.

Personally, I worry about a trial anywhere on American soil for these men.  I think they'll be  perceived as heroes and may encourage recruitment for other young Muslims to do the follow in their footsteps.  I think the death penalty is inevitable and I worry that a clash between Muslim Americans and Christian Americans is almost just as inevitable. Any trial will surely deliver some defense.  The only defense I can think of for these men will be of an Anti American, pro terrorist nature.
